Placid Stag Beetle - Lucanus placidus

This species is appreciated for its smaller size and refined stag beetle form. Larvae develop in decaying hardwood, typically within well-rotted logs and stumps, where they spend one to two years feeding before pupation. Adults are  black, with males bearing slender, moderately elongated mandibles used in low-intensity contests, while females are more robust with shorter, functional jaws. They are sand associated and needs sand for breeding! A rare species to be offered live!
